課程概述

本課程包含生物統計學與流行病學兩大部分,將淺入深出地自資料初探開始,以科學原則探討統計分佈及基本原理(假設檢定及估計)及其應用於流行病學測量指標,再以統計推理方式探討流行病學因果關係推論,之後將探討統計方法與實證醫學研究設計,並應用於實驗性流行病學,再以類實驗研究設計及相關統計方法應用於兩個流行病學常用之世代追蹤研究、病例對照研究等。最後再將多元迴歸方程式模式應用於臨床流行病學、傳染病流行病學、遺傳流行病學等主題。
This course is divided into two parts, biostatistics and epidemiology. This course begins with the basic theory of statistics (including statistical distribution, hypothesis testing and estimation) and their links with basic measurements of descriptive epidemiology and causal relationships implicated in analytic epidemiology. We then unify basic statistical methods with experimental epidemiological method to reach the principles of evidence-based medicine (EBM). We also impart quasi-experimental design with two major epidemiological designs, prospective cohort study and case-control study. Finally, we applied our statistical regression model to different fields of epidemiology, including clinical epidemiology, infectious epidemiology and genetic epidemiology. 

課程目標

本課程主要是啟發及引導醫學及牙醫系學生對於生物統計與流行病學在醫學及牙醫(特別是實證醫學)扮演之角色,並從科學角度及觀點探討如何結合統計原理與流行病學方法,針對醫學及牙醫所提出之研究假說及研究設計下產生之實證資料進行分析,並激發同學進一步學習的興趣,並具備下列知能 (competencies):
1. 研究問題提出合適之研究假說
2. 以流行病學角度提出合適的研究設計
3. 以統計思維描述資料型態並進行檢定假說及估計

The objective of this course is to inspire and to guide medical and dental students to enrich the knowledge and theory of biostatistics and epidemiology. Specifically, we are tempted to impart students to use the concepts of biostatistics and epidemiology to answer research hypothesis with good epidemiological study designs and statistical analysis in order to provide the following competences:
1. To formulate research hypothesis on specific scientific questions
2. To propose a good epidemiological design
To explore the empirical data with statistical distribution and frame statistical questions with the concept of statistical inference 
課程要求
本課程並未指定單一教科書,但列有參考書目。不印講義,每周上課講義皆置於Ceiba課程網站上供同學自行下載。隨課程進行,有對應之作業會於課堂公布之。每學期共舉行兩次考試,期中與期末考。
The textbooks and reference books are listed below. The teaching material is available from CEIBA website. The students are expected to listen to the lecture and practice. Evaluation includes mid-term, final examination and regular exercise.
